We all know that most teachers, especially private school teachers, are underpaid.  We also know they get summers off.  That’s why so many of them spend all that free time trying to raise extra money.  So, if you are short cash and looking for a quick way to make some more money ask a teacher for some advice.  Here are a few things I personally have done over the summer to help make more money: 

1. Tutoring: Teachers have this market cornered.  If you are a teacher not only check out companies such as Sylvan, Huntington, and Kumon but also see if you can go into business for yourself.  While working for one of those companies I learned that I could make more money while saving the customers money if I just went into business for myself.  I secretly let the parents know of my plan and soon I was making twice as much as before.

2. Waiting Tables: Teachers are good with stress and dealing with large groups of people.  It’s a perfect match.

3. Painting: Groups of teachers have got together and made the Teachers remodeling company.  It is a group of teachers who know a little bit about painting and remodeling who had their own summer job.

4. Selling: I have an apartment loaded with junk that I rarely even touch.  The last time I picked up most of that stuff was when I moved from my previous apartment.  That is why I love Craigslist.  I took pictures, posted my free ads, and pretty soon I made over $100 in extra cash.  Several of those people came to my place to pick it up and move it.

5.  Movers: I have moved dozens of times in my life.  This means that I had to sadly bug friends and families to help haul my stuff all over.  Plus, I was paying a lot for my gym membership to get in great shape.  That’s when I realized I could get great exercise and cash by helping others move.

6. Writing Online: If you are the type you post blogs to share your opinions and stories for free, why not get some money for it?  Just look online for sites like this one and make even some more money by doing things you would be doing anyways.

7. Investments: Whether you are educated enough to try the stock market, or just open a money market account, investing is the least time consuming way to make money possible.  If you don’t understand stocks try starting with an S&P Index fund.  That means if American companies as a group do good you do good.  It’s a lot less riskier than betting on the future of one particular company.

8. File for unemployment: Sometimes small schools wait until after summer to begin rehiring their teachers.  During that time teachers are technically unemployed.  If all of the traditional summer jobs are full don’t be too embarrassed to file for unemployment.  Your taxes are paying for this service.  I say take advantage of it.
